An elderly Briton who was arrested in Gozo and extradited to the UK to face child sex abuse charges, has been jailed for 22 years.

Bryan Davies, 70, was extradited to Wales in August last year to face 38 charges related to child sex abuse and pornography dating back to the 1970s.

Investigators who searched his property seized various items, including a computer, mobile phones and other electronic equipment requested by UK authorities.

Mr Davies, who used to run a children's home in Llangollen, was tried at Mold Crown Court.

He pleaded not guilty but was convicted of 15 offences against eight children who were described by the judge as now broken men in their 50s whose lives had been blighted by his serious breach of trust.

Davies was convicted of illegal penetrative acts in respect of two of the victims and received 22 years for those. He must register with the police as a sex offender for life.

Before the trial Mr Davies, disappeared for six years before being found in Gozo.
