Last month, Eurobasket Air Malta hosted three British basketball teams who were here for a training camp. Players from Guildford Heat, the 2007 British champions, Kingston Wildcats and NASSA Sports Academy conducted a mid-term training in Malta under the supervision of Eurobasket head coach Bane Vukovic.

First contacts between Eurobasket and the British clubs started last summer when Vukovic was head coach at a training camp organised by former Los Angeles Lakers star Steve Bucknall.

On that occasion, Vukovic also led a coaching clinic at Crystal Palace attended by 50 coaches.

A total of 61 youngsters trained in Malta under a programme prepared by Vukovic and other coaches.

"We were focusing on development of individual skills," Vukovic said.

"I believe that is something that every young player has to work on even though basketball is a team game. British players have great physical potential and with good individual training they can soon become one of the top five European teams."

This summer, Vukovic will form part of a coaching team at the London South Bank University whose team is taking part in the European University Basketball Championship.
