Jack Nicklaus, of the US, shows off an enlarged five-pound note on Tuesday, the day it was issued to commemorate his final appearance at the British Open.

The Royal Bank of Scotland plans to put into circulation two million of the notes.

The British Open, the world's oldest golf championship, is being played on the Old Course at St Andrews this week.

Nicklaus, 65, won the British Open three times, the first in 1966.

The 134th British Open starts today when American Todd Hamilton will defend the title he won last year in a play-off with Ernie Els at Royal Troon.
