Livorno: Livorno president Aldo Spinelli, who led the club to the Serie A, said he would like his son to replace him. Livorno beat Brescia 5-2 on aggregate in the play-off final to make an immediate return to the top flight. "If my son will accept the offer to take my place, I believe that this will be my last game as Livorno president," Spinelli said. "This has been too tough a year for me. I hope my son accepts."

Golf: The weather-hit US Open is likely to require at least a fifth day's play after heavy rain at an already soaked Bethpage Black delayed the scheduled start yesterday. The Jamaican trials run from Friday through to Sunday in Kingston.

Cricket: Pakistan won their first major title in 17 years when they stunned Sri Lanka by eight wickets in the World Twenty20 final at Lord's yesterday.
