Nine infringement proceedings, initiated by the EU against Malta, were closed yesterday by the College of Commissioners, the government said in a statement.

They included eight cases concerning internal market and standardisation matters, while one was related to the environment.

A spokesman for the Ministry for European Affairs and Implementation of the Electoral Manifesto said this reflected the government’s commitment to maintaining Malta’s good record in adopting directives correctly and taking early remedial action when this did not happen.

There are currently 20 infringement procedures open against Malta, 10 of which date back before March 2013 and one of which was referred to the Court of Justice.

Three of the open infringements were dormant.
