Midfielder Paul Scholes says a quarter-final clash with Brazil would hold no fears for an England team who have already claimed the scalp of pre-tournament favourites Argentina.

England's 3-0 victory over Denmark on Saturday sealed their place in the last eight, where they will face the winner of the Brazilians' meeting with Belgium in Kobe today.

Asked if they could beat a team on Friday boasting the likes of Ronaldo, Rivaldo and Roberto Carlos, Scholes told reporters:

"I don't see why not.

"There's no point going to the games thinking we're not going to win, whoever we're playing.

"The game against Argentina proved that we believe we can win."

The unexpected first-round exits of holders France, Argentina and Portugal have helped clear the way for Sven-Goran Eriksson's men, but Scholes was taking nothing for granted over England's future progress.

"There's still a lot of great teams in the tournament - Brazil, Italy and Germany and even the likes of Mexico, who have been one of the best teams at the tournament so far.

"So, it's going to be difficult."

Scholes has been influential in England's progress so far, but he paid tribute to the excellent form of Nicky Butt, one of the three-man Manchester United midfield with skipper David Beckham.

"He's always been a great player," Scholes said of Butt, who at both club and international level has rarely been in the spotlight.

"He's always had the ability to play for England, and whenever he has, he's done very well. And, in the last few games, he's been brilliant."

Having three of England's four midfielders from the same club, where the three 27-year-olds have also spent their entire careers, is an added advantage.

"I suppose it does help," Scholes said. "We're used to playing with each other at club level and thankfully, in the last few games, it's worked well for England as well."
