A brave shopkeeper foiled an attempted hold-up at a St Julian's grocery early this morning.

The police said the incident took place at 6am in St George Street, Paceville.

A hooded man brandishing a knife entered the shop and demanded money from the shopkeeper, a 21-year-old Pakistani.

He refused to hand over any money and resisted the aggressor, who eventually ran out empty handed.

Police investigations are ongoing and a magisterial inquiry is under way.
