A young British boy was rescued by two French divers after he fell into rough seas at Marsalforn.

The incident happened at about 12.30 off the Marsalforn breakwater.

The boy had been with his parents admiring the view of the rough sea when he was carried into the sea by a large wave.

The divers, a French couple, who were near by, managed to return him safely to shore.

The divers were then themselves pulled to shore by policemen after finding  themselves in difficulties.

The boy was briefly treated at Gozo General hospital.
