A six-year-old boy was rescued after he became stuck between window security bars on the sixth floor of a residential building in western China's Xinjiang region, state media reported.

The boy, left home alone by his parents, was playing on the grate when he fell and was caught between iron bars, state television reported.

A neighbour, who lived one story below, stuck his hand out of the window of his apartment to provide some support for the boys feet.

Local firefighters removed one of the bars and pulled the boy to safety.

The boy's condition was not known.
