Chris Lanzon and his In Stereo bandmates have made it to the final 10 of Australia’s X Factor.

The teenage band received a standing ovation when they auditioned with an adaptation of Taylor Swift’s Style, setting many hearts aflutter and being dubbed the new One Direction.

Tonight, they will be competing with nine others for the public vote.

“We entered the X Factor because we saw it as a great way to show ourselves to the world. We never knew what to expect or how far we would go,” 15-year-old Chris told this newspaper yesterday.

“It was always a dream for us to make it to the live shows and now that we are here we are so grateful for the opportunity. We are having loads of fun and loving every moment. It has been an experience we will never forget."

Just a year ago, Chris, whose parents are Maltese, made it to the finals of the Australian talent show The Voice Kids.

There, he made good friends with one of the other contestants, Ethan Karpathy, aged 14. Together with a third singer, Jakob Delgado, also 14, they formed the band In Stereo.

They have all become like one happy family in the last month or so of living and working together

Their audition at X Factor was the band’s first public appearance. They have now made it past boot camp and onto the live shows as the youngest competitors.

There have been two eliminations so far – one each week of the live shows, but this week it will be twice as hard as there will be two eliminations.

The show will be broadcast today and the public can vote by phone until noon tomorrow. The bottom three will be announced tomorrow and the act with the lowest number of votes will be eliminated. The other two will battle it out with another performance and the judges will select who stays.

Chris’s parents Peter and Ingrid German shared their excitement with this newspaper.

Last week, the boys’ mentor Guy Sebastian ended up with two of his three acts in the bottom two, and one of the acts – the Fisher Boys – got eliminated, much to In Stereo's dismay.

“They have all become like one happy family in the last month or so of living and working together and it’s hard for them to see their friends go. This week two acts will go, so it will be twice as hard,” his mother said.
