A seven-year-old boy was seriously injured when he was hit by a car at the Sliema Stand early this morning.

The police said the accident happened shortly before 1am as the boy was crossing the road.

Sources said the boy suddenly dashed out into the road.

His injuries are not life-threatening.

Meanwhile, in Gozo, a 44-year-old man was seriously injured when he fell some five metres off scaffolding in a field at Triq il-Kalandrijiet, Kercem.

The accident, also shortly before 1am, happened as he tried to put out a fire caused by ground fireworks.

He is being treated  for grievous injuries at Gozo hospital.
