A 16-year-old boy was yesterday jailed for two months after admitting that he had breached his bail conditions and was in possession of stolen goods.

The boy, whose name cannot be published because he is a minor, told police that he had left his house outside the hours stipulated in his bail conditions. He also admitted to being in possession of stolen goods.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera said in her judgment that it was quite obvious the boy wanted to challenge the administration of the courts and the charges were, therefore, serious.

Although the boy's criminal record only showed one conditional discharge for three years, he did not learn from his mistakes, she added.

She, therefore, sentenced the boy to two months in prison and fined him €230.

Police Inspector Bernard Spiteri prosecuted.
