Globalair, Ramis make ground in absence of top two

Big guns Fina First and Tabsat were due to meet in the seventh fixture of the Middlesea League at the SuperBowl, but had to postpone the match as a number of players from both sides are on assignment abroad.

That left other hopeful outfits, Globalair Travel and Ramis, in a position to gain some ground on the top spots, the two both putting in six-point victories in their respective matches against Turu's Knights and Café Ole.

Centro Casalinga picked up a 5-3 win over bottom side Active, while the confrontation between NINE and Royal Shock finished a four-all draw.

Turu's Knights take the title of unluckiest team of the week, having rolled three solid 800+ games in their match with Globalair Travel, but winding up 6-2 losers due to an early brace of two great games from the latter.

Globalair took the opening thriller by just six pins, 819-825, and then went 4-0 up with an 843-895 game two win against the thoroughly frustrated Knights. Globalair finally cracked in game three, letting their opponents in to claim a quarter share of the points with a final 802-761 win.

Ramis strengthened their position in fourth by also winning 6-2 at the expense of struggling Café Ole.

The early edge went to Ramis with a 710-760 win in the first of the set, but their lead was then cancelled in the second which Café Ole claimed 778-750, to give just a 22-pin series advantage to Ramis as game three rolled off. That fell easily to Ramis 676-773 to make certain of their match win.

Standings: Fina 42, Globalair Travel 38, Tabsat 36, Ramis 34, Centro Casalinga 31, Royal Shock 26, NINE 24, Turu's Knights 22, Café Ole 12, Active 7.

Note: Fina, Globalair with a game in hand.

Bowlers of the Week: Tiziana Carannante (Turu's Knights, 621); Neil Sullivan (Globalair Travel, 685).
