Bank of Valletta shares saw trading open at Lm2.67 on Tuesday, range between Lm2.655 and Lm2.70 before coming to a close at Lm2.69 on Friday. This marked an increase of 2c on the previous week's reading. Weekly turnover amounted to 29,856 shares changing hands over 24 deals. After yesterday's session drew to a close, best bids for 3,000 shares at Lm2.67 and best offers of 5,906 shares at Lm2.70 remained unsatisfied.

Monday's trading session saw HSBC shares open trading at Lm5.17 and close at Lm5.15. During the week, trading ranged between Lm5.11 and Lm5.17 before closing yesterday's session back at Lm5.15. Seventeen deals were struck during the week, on which 8,555 shares changed hands. 2,000 shares at Lm4.79 and 700 shares at Lm5.149 were the best outstanding bids and offers respectively after the close of yesterday's trading session.

Turnover in Maltacom shares amounted to 16 deals being struck, over which 21,480 shares changed hands. Weekly trading opened on Tuesday at Lm1.015 and went up to close at Lm1.09 yesterday, up by 8c5 on lasts week's closing price. Following the close of business yesterday, 2,000 shares at Lm1.03 and 6,096 shares at Lm1.09 were the best outstanding bids and offers respectively.

In a company announcement issued yesterday, the board of directors of Lombard Bank Malta plc stated that all the ordinary and extraordinary resolutions put to the annual general meeting held on Thursday have been approved. The board of directors is made of Mr C. Lemmerich (chairman), Mr J. R. Darmanin, Mr J.M. Demajo, Mr G. A. Fairclough, Mr P. Raimondo (alternate director Mr G. Maiga), Mr J. Said and Mr M. Zammit.

The other equities which traded during the week were: 5,000 Lombard Bank Malta shares at Lm3.71; 22,520 Malta International Airport shares between Lm0.685 and Lm0.65; 39,660 International Hotels Investments shares between Lm0.825 and Lm0.77; 13,000 Datatrak Holdings shares at Lm0.28 and Lm0.299 and a put-through deal in Simonds Farsons Cisk shares whereby 1,528 shares changed hands at Lm0.856.

In a company announcement issued on Monday, Gasan Finance Company plc stated that it will issue Lm3,500,000 bonds at par with an interest rate of 6.4 per cent and maturing between November 30, 2008 and November 30, 2011, subject to an option to increase to Lm5 million in case of over-subscription. Subscription lists for the issue will open at 8.30 a.m. on Thursday and close at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, November 5 or earlier at the discretion of the issuers.

Total Malta Government Stock turnover amounted to a nominal value of Lm 2,251,600 being traded in 95 deals over 22 different stocks. Of these a nominal value of Lm1,850,800 was traded in the 7.8 per cent MGS 2018 alone. Trading over the week in corporate bonds was made up of a total value of Lm187,310.

The Malta Stock Exchange Share Index increased by 29.195 points or 1.39 per cent over the week and now stands at 2,136.059.
