Bank of Valletta shares increased a total of 27c (5.422 per cent) over the week, opening Monday's session at Lm4.98 and closing that of yesterday at Lm5.25. In the interim, the price of this equity reached a weekly low of Lm4.95. Turnover amounted to 67,709 shares spread over 91 deals. Following yesterday's trading session, 525 shares at Lm5.21 and 20,459 shares at Lm5.25 were the best unsatisfied bids and offers respectively.

HSBC shares opened the week at Lm5.41c1 and gained 10c9 during the week to end yesterday's session at Lm5.52. Total turnover amounted to 52,465 shares changing hands over 68 deals. In the interim, the equity reached a weekly low of Lm5.35. At the close of the business yesterday, best bids for 2,200 shares at Lm5.52 and best offers of 2,000 shares at Lm5.60 remained outstanding.

Trading in Lombard Bank shares opened and closed the week at Lm6, representing an increase of 30c over the previous week's closing. In total, 709 shares changed hands on Tuesday being the only trading session of this equity during the current week, spread over three deals. As yesterday's session drew to a close, best unsatisfied bids for 940 shares at Lm6.11 stood against best unsatisfied offers of 1,023 shares at Lm6.50.

Meanwhile, FIMBank shares traded between US$1.30 and US$1.45 during the week, with the former being the opening price on Tuesday, while the latter was the closing level yesterday. This marked an increase of US$0.15 (11.5 per cent) on the previous week's closing price. In total, 64,400 shares changed hands during the three sessions of this week, spread over six deals. Following the end of yesterday's session, best bids for 400 shares at US$1.45 remained unsatisfied. There were no oustanding offers.

An increase of 2c was registered over the week in the closing price of Maltacom shares. Monday's session saw the equity open at Lm1.35 with the closing price reaching a high of Lm1.37 on Friday. The price ranged between Lm1.37 and Lm1.30. Eighty-four deals were struck during the week, over which 110,796 shares changed hands. At the end of yesterday's session best bids for 3,000 shares at Lm1.36 and best offers of 5,400 shares at Lm1.37 remained unsatisfied.

In a company announcement issued on Wednesday, Datatrak holdings plc announced that a meeting of the board of directors has been convened for September 6, during which the interim financial statements for the six months ended on June 30, including the profits and losses for that period, will be approved.

The other equities which traded during the week, followed by the range in which trading took place, are: 6,038 Middlesea Insurance shares between Lm3.12 and Lm3.10; 126,882 Plaza Centres shares between 60c and 57c5; 6,105 Malta International Airport shares between Lm1.36c9 and Lm1.33; 28,820 Global Financial Services shares between Lm1.28c4 and Lm1.20; 7,464 Datatrak shares at 25c.

Total Malta government stock turnover amounted to a nominal value of Lm686,800 being traded in 61 deals over 17 different stocks. Trading over the week in corporate bonds was made up of a total value of Lm42,463.

The Malta Stock Exchange share index increased by 105.6 points or three per cent over the week and now stands at 3,625.463.
