The General Workers’ Union has officially warned the management of Bank of Valletta that it will not accept a repetition of the decision taken this year not to pay employees their full performance bonuses.

In a private e-mail exchange seen by this newspaper, outgoing CEO Charles Borg was told in no uncertain terms that a repetition will not be permitted.

“The union is concerned about the fact that a number of KPIs (appraisal exercises) for 2015 are not even opened,” Charles Galea, the GWU secretary responsible for BOV, wrote.

Insisting that the union expects the bank to be vigilant with the unit heads and employees “who are disrupting once again” the performance appraisal system, Mr Galea emphasised that “it is definitely not acceptable to have a repeat of last year’s performance appraisal scheme failure”.

The Times of Malta last week revealed that BOV employees were up in arms against a decision taken by the management not to pay its employees the full performance bonus for 2014.
