Foreign Minister Tonio Borg is in Libya at the start of a North African tour which
will see him have talks with senior government officials in Tripoli, Tunis and
Cairo.

He had a meeting today with Mohammed Al Magariaf, president of the General
National Congress of Libya. Items for discussion included immigration, trade and the speedy issue of visas for Maltese wishing to travel to Libya.

The meetings are being held in preparation for the 5+5 conference in Malta
next month which will group representatives of five European and North African
Mediterranean states.

In Tunisia, Dr Borg will preside over a regular meeting of the Mixed Commission
between the two countries. Subjects on the agenda include trade, investment,  cooperation in home affairs and on the environment, transport and social policy.

In Cairo, the minister is expected to have a meeting with new President Morsi.
