Foreign Minister Tonio Borg has had talks Qatar with Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabor Al Thani on the possibility of a hospital being set up in Malta to treat the wounded from Libya.

Dr Borg also spoke about Qatari interest in setting up the hospital when he addressed a meeting of the House Foreign Affairs Committee on Thursday.

He said that in order not to put pressure on hospital facilities in Malta, a separate building may be identified in Malta and equipped by Qatar to treat the Libyan patients.

He stressed that the patients would then return to Libya.

The hospital, he said, would be part of Malta's humanitarian aid to Libya.

Dr Borg also participated in meetings of the Libya Contact Group - which consists of countries currently involved in operations against Col Gaddafi, as well as Malta and Greece.
