A bore hole for an eventual rescue has reached 33 trapped miners, according to the Chilean government.

Atacama region Governor Ximena Matas said the T130 probe has reached the cavern where the miners have been trapped since August 5.

Officials plan now to widen the hole so that the miners can be pulled through it. That effort is likely to take more than six weeks.
