The launch of Wied Wirdien was marked in a very unconventional manner, with re-enactments of various scenes from the book at the Cittadella Centre for Culture, Arts and Crafts. Wied Wirdien, by Simon Bartolo and Loranne Vella, is being published by Merlin Library and is the second book in the Fiddien trilogy.

The first book, Sqaq l-Infern, was published in April last year and sold a record-breaking 1,000 copies in its first 10 days. This year there was much anticipation for Wied Wirdien, so much so that 1,000 copies had been pre-booked prior to its publication on April 24.

The first scene from the book was that of Rose, Kristjan's mum, gossiping on the phone as she received very bad news. Of course the audience was not told what the bad news was ... not to spoil the story. Rose was played by Roberta Cauchi.

Ninette Micallef's interpretation of Antida, the old woman who was preparing her pudina while talking about what befell her after meeting Il-Fiddien, was the second scene to be performed.

The final episode was that of 'Dr Agula'.

After the play, the authors mingled with the audience, held a competition for a signed copy of their new book, answered questions from the floor and also held a short book-signing session.
