Trading over the week in corporate bonds was made up of a total value of Lm207,587, while total Malta Government stock turnover over the week amounted to a nominal value of Lm445,700 having a value of Lm498,027. These were traded in 39 deals over 20 different stocks.

At the first trading on Tuesday, Bank of Valletta shares saw 16 deals being struck over the week with 8,673 shares changing hands all at Lm2.30. Following Friday's trading session best bids for 1,980 shares at Lm2.30 were outstanding while best offers of 8,818 shares at Lm2.31 remained unsatisfied.

Twelve deals were struck in HSBC during the week, with total turnover amounting to 21,800 shares. Trading opened and closed at Lm4.40, occasionally going down to Lm4.399 during the week. At the close of business yesterday 1,500 shares at Lm4.25 and 3,250 shares at Lm4.38 were the best outstanding bids and offers respectively.

Maltacom shares closed the week at Lm0.92 yesterday, after trading was conducted between the week's opening price of Lm0.899 and the weekly high Lm0.935. Turnover amounted to 42,601 shares being traded over 20 deals. After yesterday's session 5,000 shares at Lm0.91 were the best outstanding bids while best offers of 3,650 shares at Lm0.92 remained unsatisfied.

In a company announcement issued on Thursday, the board of directors of Middlesea Insurance plc stated that the extraordinary resolution that would allow the company to acquire a number of its own shares was approved during the annual general meeting.

Another company announcement issued yesterday went on to state that all other resolutions were approved during the annual general meeting, including the payment of a dividend. Furthermore, the directors who shall be serving on the board of directors were elected, with Mr M.C. Grech being appointed chairman and Mr J.F.X. Zahra deputy chairman.

Middlesea Insurance shares saw nine deals being struck during the week, between the opening price of Lm2.50 and the closing price of Lm2.60. Turnover amounted to 2,429 shares.

In a company announcement issued on Thursday, the board of directors of International Hotel Investments plc published the resolutions to be forwarded at the forthcoming annual general meeting. A number of extraordinary resolutions will be presented apart from ordinary resolutions, including the increase of the maximum number of directors.

Meanwhile, two deals were struck this week in International Hotel Investments shares, both at Lm0.90, with a total turnover of 12,000 shares.

The other equities which traded during the week appear below, followed by the range in which trading took place: 720 Lombard Bank shares at Lm3.72; 800 Malta International Airport shares at Lm0.70; 2,000 Simonds Farsons Cisk shares at Lm0.76 and 1,000 Global Financial Services Group shares at Lm0.20.

The Malta Stock Exchange share index increased by 8.03 points or 0.416 per cent over the week and now stands at 1,937.353. This increase is attributable to gains registered in Maltacom and Middlesea Insurance, which were up by 2.336 per cent and four per cent on the week respectively.
