A reporter was killed in Somalia when a bomb planted under his car seat exploded, a journalist in the capital said today.

Abdinasir Mohamed Ali said his colleague at Mustaqbal radio, Yusuf Keynan, died when the device went off as he started his car to travel to work in Mogadishu.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

Keynan is the first journalist murdered in Somalia this year following a series of attacks against journalists over the past two years.

Targeted attacks against journalists were common in 2012 and 2013, but most of those murders were carried out by gunmen.

Somalia is one of the most dangerous countries to be a journalist, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists.
