A time bomb exploded under the car of a Greek high security prison director early on today outside her home, smashing windows of nearby houses and slightly injuring one woman, police officials said.

The device, which police estimate contained at least 1 kilogram of dynamite, was left under the car driven by Maria Stefi outside her house in the heavily populated Athens suburb of Dafni.

Stefi is the director of the high-security Korydallos Prison, home to serious criminals.

Police cordoned off the area after an unidentified caller warned a Greek news website that a bomb would blow up in 20 minutes. The device went off at about 0140 GMT. One woman was slightly injured in her home by broken glass.

A police official who spoke on condition of anonymity said authorities believe it was "an act of domestic terrorism". No one has claimed responsibility for the explosion.
