Updated - Soldiers from the army's bomb disposal unit were called to Isouard Street in St Paul's Bay after a suspicious packet was seen on the doorstep of the office of Parliamentary Secretary Deborah Schembri this morning.

But it turned out to be a false alarm - the box and a nearby bag only contained rubbish.

Dr Schembri practised as a lawyer before being appointed parliamentary secretary last week, succeeding Michael Falzon.
