A second judicial protest has been filed against the government over an eviction order on Bugibba boathouses issued by the Land Department.

Joseph Attard, 88, has vowed to contest an order to evict a boathouse he has been renting since 1964 and on which he has rental title. The order was issued for this and 27 other boathouses beneath Bugibba Square.

The boathouses were built in the 1960s on expropriated land. Two years later, Residual Ltd purchased the land from the previous owner but has since never been compensated by successive governments. In 2011 the company won a case against the government and and a court ordered  the transfer of the boathouses to it as compensation. The boathouse owners were never informed of the case.
