The world's top premium carmaker BMW is expecting German vehicle sales this year to remain stable compared with last year, newspaper Tagesspiegel reported, citing the company's head of sales in Germany.

"In Germany, we are still above pre-year unit sales at the moment. At the end of the year, we are likely to land at the level of last year," Philipp von Sahr was quoted as saying.

Last year, the company sold about 281,000 automobiles in Germany, according to the company's annual report.

Mr von Sahr also reiterated that the company's 2008 unit sales would not reach the level of last year, when BMW sold about 1.5 million automobiles, the paper said.

On Friday, BMW had reported a 25.4 per cent drop in group vehicle sales for November, while peer Daimler said unit sales at its Mercedes-Benz Car premium division fell 25.2 per cent in the same period.
