Mosta 4
Dingli Swallows 2

Mosta beat Dingli and joined Mqabba in second place in the standings to gear up for their most important match of the season when they play Melita next with a promotion slot at stake.

Dingli started briskly with Mosta, perhaps, not expecting Borislav Giorev’s mid-table side to play so lively.

The Swallows took the lead on 12 minutes when Kevin Borg was floored by Kenneth Spiteri in the Mosta box and Leontin Konda scored from the penalty.

But, the Blues immediately woke up and drew level two minutes later thanks to an Adrian Borg goal whose fierce grounder gave the Dingli keeper no chance.

Mosta held the initiative and Dingli fell behind on 19 minutes.

From a corner, the ball fell into the path of Simon Shead who slotted home from close in.

Mosta looked comfortable now and administered play with relative ease as Dingli were visibly stunned and out of focus.

But Dingli upped their game after the break and on 58 minutes Spiteri made a timely tackle on Joreilly Chirino who was on his way to goal.

Chirino could have done better when hitting over the crossbar from close range after Konda had mishit in front of goal.

Dingli were made to pay for those lapses and 15 minutes from time Shead headed past Abela to make it 3-1.

Kayne Farrugia hit wide from a good position but on 86 minutes substitute Victor Osobu dashed through unimpeded to score Mosta’s fourth goal.

Prince Okachi did manage to pull one back for Dingli late on but by that time Mosta had long been home and dry.
