The critical blood shortage of 'O' type blood, reported yesterday, has not improved and the supply has continued to dwindle, the Blood Bank said today.

A spokesman for the Blood Bank said that in spite of its appeal yesterday, not many people turned up to donate blood.

In another appeal today, the bank said that both positive and negative blood was in short supply and anyone who could donate was being encouraged to do so.

The bank has less than 20 bags of O negative blood and around 50 bags of O positive.

Demand for blood has increased as more operations are being carried out.

Blood donations can be made at the Blood Bank next to St Luke's Hospital in Guardamangia between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Mondays to Sundays or at the Gozo General Hospital between 8.30 and 11.30 a.m. Mondays to Saturdays.

Donors have to be in possession of their identity card.
