Għajnsielem joined Victoria Hotspurs at the top of the Division One standings following a 3-0 win over bottom-placed Kerċem Ajax.

First-half goals from Kenneth Mercieca and Ferdinando Apap gave Għajnsielem a 2-0 lead.

Kerċem were second best for much of the first half but they came close to reducing the deficit after the break.

However, Għajnsielem secured their victory late in the match when player-coach Alex Simoncic scored their third goal.

Nadur Youngsters, the other title chasers, failed to maintain the pace at the top after being held to a 2-2 draw by Xewkija Tigers.

Nadur looked cruising towards victory by the end of the first half as they enjoyed a deserved two-goal lead with goals from Claudio Antunes and Andre De Souza.

Xewkija battled on despite having Josef Xerri sent off early in the second period.

On 61 minutes, Nadur's Saviour Attard floored Basil Chibueze in the box. The referee awarded a penalty and dismissed Attard. Chibueze scored from the spot.

The Tigers snatched an equaliser through Rodney Buttigieg five minutes from the end. Nadur finished the game with nine men after De Souza was shown a red card for dissent in stoppage time.

In another match, SK Victoria Wanderers won their relegation clash with Sannat Lions 3-2.

The Wanderers opened the scoring inside the first minute through Ajibade Adesina. Sannat recovered from that early shock and began to share play but Victoria doubled the score on 50 minutes through Ige Adesina. Four minutes later, Sannat suffered another blow when Mario Azzopardi was sent off.

The Wanderers made it 3-0 on 76 minutes thanks to a Manuel Cordina goal but Sannat made the score look more respectable with goals from substitute Mark Muscat and John Camilleri late on.
