The above is a pen and ink impression which I had made the morning following the terrible event 30 years ago when The Times building was burnt down. That very afternoon I had visited the archive office of The Times as I was doing some research work in the photographic section at the request of an English friend who had been stationed in Malta during his term of national service in the Royal Navy.

I left the office at closing time and was due to return the following day, which sadly was not to be.
