The Bishops of Malta and Gozo last Saturday held a consultative meeting with priests and lay people to discuss the leadership of the Universal Church.

The Episcopal Conference in a statement today said the bishops had been asked to give their views by Cardinal Reinhard Marx, a member of the Council of Cardinals appointed by the Pope to advise him on a reform of the Roman Curia.

The Maltese bishops decided that the consultation should not be just between themselves, but should also include a number of priests and lay people.

Saturday’s meeting was chaired by Bishop Mario Grech, president of the Episcopal Conference.

The conclusions of the meeting will be sent to Cardinal Marx.
