A morally decent life is being promoted in a pastoral note by the College of Pastors in Gozo, together with Gozo Bishop Mario Grech. The note will be read during Saturday evening and Sunday masses.

The note says that while it was very positive that the people nowadays paid a lot of attention to health and the environment, being careful to avoid diseases, attention also had to be paid to diseases of the heart and spirit.

There were a lot of issues that easily promoted pleasure, violence and contempt, especially for a woman's body.

A society which lost its public morality had deeper problems. Society also had the right to moral economy and a clean environment which did not kill the spirit. Indecent clothing made a person lose his dignity. It expressed poverty, a call for attention and was provocative. One could be elegant without being indecent and provocative. Indecent clothing could also lead to abuse and sin.

Decency should not just be bound to religion and the Church, the note said. There should be decency in homes, in the family, in the media, in the road and in all environments of society.

There should be more decency in feasts, marches and processions. Decency should be safeguarded during the celebration of the sacraments and while tourists were welcome, they should not go round with indecent or beach clothing.
