Vittorina Mizzi, On behalf of students of the University of the Third Age, Gozo, writes:

We, the students of the University of the Third Age of Gozo, had the fortune of having the late Mgr Nikol Cauchi, former Bishop of Gozo, as lecturer for two sessions in 2006 and 2007.

The subjects were ‘Filosofija politika matul l-istorja’ (political philosophy throughout history) and ‘Duttrina Soċjali fil-Knisja’ (social doctrine in the Church).

We used to look forward to his weekly lectures as, besides them being of great importance, he had a special way of delivering the sessions.

He never missed an opportunity to share a joke or two, keeping us alert for the entire duration of the lecture.

During our 15-minute coffee breaks, he used to sit with us and continue to make us happy with his sense of humour.

One of these lectures was onsite; we visited the Seminary at Tal-Virtu. At that time, Mgr Anton Gouder was rector. Mgr Cauchi celebrated Mass in the chapel.

Afterwards, we were offered coffee and cake by the sisters in the refectory. This was an unexpected treat arranged by Mgr Cauchi for us – a group of 45 students.

After a tour around the premises we took photos with Mgr Cauchi. We are so happy and proud to have a photo with such a pious gentleman. We all pray for him and also ask him to watch over his flock so we do not go astray, and that we keep in mind what he taught us.

Thank you, Mgr Cauchi, for all you did for us Gozitans.
