Gozo Bishop Mario Grech in a Christmas message today urged action by anyone who knows of corruption.

He also urged all the faithful to be charitable and stressed that solidarity needed to be particularly throughout the year, particularly by the well off and businesses which are doing well.

On corruption, Mgr Grech said this was a sin against God and against man, a practice which undermined society and which needed to be denounced wherever it took place, and remedied.

On solidarity, Mgr Grech said he was urging major companies and the banks to invest in society in an effort to stamp out poverty, where possible. It would be wrong, he said for society to expect everything from the government, and all of society's members should do their part, especially those who were well off.

He said Christmas was the Lord's greatest gift to man as he gave his own son. This was the feast of giving and one which should lead society to reflect on the importance of charity.
