The newly-pedestrianised Bisazza Street in Sliema was inaugurated this evening by the Prime Minister and Resources Minister George Pullicino.

The ceremony marked the completion of a €750,000 project handled by the Resources Ministry, which has transformed the previously traffic congested street.

The street has been paved with porfido slabs, cables have been moved underground and street lighting has been replaced by low-consumption LEDs.

A small square half way down the hill, previously used for parking, now features two fountains and an ‘interactive sculpture featuring  late popular actors Gemma Portelli, Charles Clews  and Victor Apap sitting around a table. A vacant fourth chair can be used by people to take pictures of themselves on the monument.

Bizazza Street also features a number of benches, citrus trees in pots and other street furniture. Visitors can make use of WiFi.

There will be an ‘open day’ tomorrow (Tuesday), with activities throughout the day starting from 10 a.m. Shops will be open all day.

The inauguration follows the completion of George Bonello du Puis Garden in Qui Si Sana. The government has also announced plans to upgrade the Sliema Strand.
