Mġar United 2
Birżebbuġa 3

Birżebbuġa turned defeat into victory, the comeback win completed with a late goal scored by Clive Formosa. This was Mġarr's fourth defeat from six matches and the Greens remained in the lower end of the standings.

Birżebbuġa were close to taking the lead after only two minutes when a shot from the distance by Mark Ellul was turned over the bar by goalkeeper Luca Grech.

From then onwards, Mġarr gained the initiative and opened the score on 22 minutes when Neil Busuttil hit home from a corner.

The seasiders drew level five minutes later, Ronnie Celeste profiting from a mistake by the Mġarr rearguard.

But, Mġarr went in for the break enjoying a 2-1 lead when Simon Mizzi scored from a free-kick on 41 minutes.

Birżebbuġa were a better team after the break. On 66 minutes, it was all-square again when Celeste converted a penalty awarded for a foul inside the box on Darren Vella.

Formosa hit the Mġarr upright with a powerful drive on 73 minutes but a few minutes later he was more accurate when beating Grech from close in.

In injury-time, Birżebbuġa were reduced to ten men when Justin Camilleri was sent off for a foul on Busuttil.

Naxxar Lions 0
Marsa 0

Marsa dictated the run of play throughout the first half but they were rather poor upfront.

After ten minutes Marsa won a free-kick, which was taken by George Cutajar, and David Vella made a superb save to deny his opponents.

Vella again did well to stop a Kevin Scerri shot from a free-kick with the Lions' response producing an effort by Kevin Fenech which was neutralised by Roderick Spiteri.

On the half-hour the upright denied Marsa off a George Cutajar shot.

Naxxar were a different lot after the change of ends and on 64 minutes a Digger Okonkwo free-kick finished just wide.

Marsa were unlucky as a shot by Jeremy Dalli scraped against the upright with Naxxar replying on 76 minutes with a Matthew Coleiro shot being cleared off the line by Shaun Cutajar.
