Birkirkara will be without defender Kurt Zammit until the end of the season after he was handed a six-match ban by the Malta FA Disciplinary Commissioner.

This means that Zammit, who was called up by Malta coach Ray Farrugia for the Faroe Islands and Spain games last month, will not be available for selection even in the opening three games of the 2019/2020 top-flight campaign.

Zammit's hefty ban came after he reportedly hit a Hibernians' player following last Friday's encounter which the Paolites won 3-2 in the dying stages of the game.

Meanwhile, league leaders Hibernians will have to do without striker Tiago in their upcoming game against Qormi as he is due to serve a one-match ban.

Ħamrun Spartans will have to face Balzan without their skipper Triston Caruana who is suspended for one game as well.

Pietà Hotspurs' Jan Busuttil and St Andrews duo Travis Blagrove and Degran Jackson were also handed a one-game suspension.

Elsewhere, Gżira United's president Sharlon Pace was suspended for the next two games while Jose Borg, coach of Tarxien Rainbows, will miss out on his team's next league game to serve a one-match ban.
