Birkirkara maintained the stranglehold on their prime position in the BOV Premier League when they brushed aside Mosta 4-0 at the National Stadium this afternoon.

The Stripes who took control of proceedings from the outset and they surged ahead after 12 minutes. Edward Herrera sped past Ishmael Grech before he teed up Ronaille who easily stabbed the ball past Mosta goalkeeper Kurt Rizzo.

The woodwork denied Birkirkara a second goal on 39 minutes when Jhonnattann picked Ronaille inside the area and his firm drive came off the upright before the Mosta defence cleared.

But the Stripes were not to be denied as four minutes from the break they doubled their advantage. Herrera was again the creator as his may run on the right wing saw his speed past Grech before sending a low cross towards Jhonnattann who stabbed the ball home.

Mosta refused to give up and two minutes later Kurt Zammit fed Piccioni who hit a firm drive that came off the bar with Haber beaten.On 53 minutes, Ronaille was again denied by the woodwork when the Birkirkara striker was set up by Gareth Sciberras but his rasping drive came off the post.Birkirkara maintained the upper hand and they wrapped up the points on 78 minutes when from a short corner, taken by substitute Temile, Ryan Camenzuli picked Bissi inside the area and the Brazilian defender was allowed time and space to drive the ball past Rizzo.

The rout was complete three minutes from time when in a swift break Ryan Camenzuli sped clear on the left before threading a low cross towards the unmarked Ronaille who blasted the ball into the net.
