Birkirkara FC have signed Nigerian striker Ibrahim Olalekan Babatunde, 26, until the end of the season, the club said in a statement.

In 2006, Ibrahim Babatunde joined Msida St. Joseph and scored 18 goals, becoming a supporters’ favourite. His speed and technique were essential for Msida remain in the Premier League that season and his contribution to the team was awarded with the achivement of the Malta Football Best Foreign Player in the same year.

Babatunde, or ‘Baba’ as he is affectionately called, was a free-agent which meant that ‘The Stripes’ had no pressure to sign him before the end of the January transfer market.

He is expected to join the squad for the first training session today.

Subject to the arrival of the International Transfer Certificate, Babatunde is expected to make his debut on Saturday in the match against Qormi.
