ST ANDREWS          0

Birkirkara recovered from two successive defeats when they scored two second-half goals to see off St Andrews at the Centenary Stadium.

The Stripes seized control right from the outset with Carlos Alberto coming close but his low effort flashing just wide.

St Andrews responded two minutes later when Martin Davis sped into the area and his low show was somehow kept out by Philip Schranz, the Birkirkara goalkeeper.
On 18 minutes, Jake Grech’s inswinger was met by Klein but his downward header was easily blocked by Calleja Cremona.

On 32 minutes, the Stripes were almost handed the opener when St Andrews defender Travis Blagrove completely missed the ball when trying to cut out Carlos Alberto cross but Fabiano fired straight into the hands of Calleja Cremona.

On the restart, St Andrews started brightly and on 47 minutes Aidan Friggier forced Schranz into a fine diving save.

Just past the hour, Montebello brilliantly fed Carlos Alberto who was denied by Calleja Cremona. However, from the resultant flag kick, taken by Jake Grech, Martin Klein headed the ball firmly into the far net to put the Stripes ahead.

The Saints were rattled and Birkirkara went on to wrap up the points on 80 minutes when the impressive Carlos Alberto picked Montebello inside the area and the towering striker volleyed the ball home.

BOV Player of the match: Luke Montebello (Birkirkara).
