Birkirkara enjoyed a convincing start to their league campaign when they brushed aside Naxxar Lions 4-0 at the Hibs Stadium.

As the scoreline clearly shows, there was never any doubt on Birkirkara’s supremacy on the day as the Stripes completely dominated their opponents with their striking tandem of Vito Plut and Fabrizio Miccoli proving a handful for the Lions.

Birkirkara took 11 minutes to break the stalemate when Plut burst clear on the left before teeing up the sprinting Miccoli who beat goalkeeper Julian Azzopardi with a fierce drive.

More woes followed for the Lions as two minutes later Azzopardi lost his footing when trying to control Moises Gnenebe’s backpass and in came Plut to divert the ball into an empty net.

Naxxar were clearly on the ropes and on 23 minutes they almost fell further behind.

From another surging run from Plut saw the Slovenian pick Miccoli on the edge of the area and the Italian forward’s exquisite lob was palmed away by Azzopardi.

Birkirkara were clearly in control as the Lions struggled to contain their swift play.

Three minutes from the break the Stripes further extended their lead when Miccoli was first to Attard’s cross but his shot on the turn was blocked but in came Sciberras who blasted the ball home.

Birkirkara all but wrapped up the points with a fourth goal on 73 minutes when substitute Emdond Agius made inroad on the right before serving Fenech at the far post who blasted the ball past goalkeeper Azzopardi.

Birkirkara striker Vito Plut was voted as the BOV Player of the Match.
