This season's Megaman League for teams again comprises five direct encounters between the country's leading sides - defending champions Pawla Wolves Assikura and Birkirkara Firetech.

After starting their commitments on the right footing by winning the first of this five-match series 4-1, Birkirkara maintained their momentum to make it two in a row by also taking the second 3-2.

As was the case in the opening match, it was the Wolves who went initially ahead by winning the mixed doubles through David Cole/Catherine Dimech.

They edged out Robert Salomone/Fiorella Farrugia 21-19 21-19 in a tight match.

However, Birkirkara reacted immediately through Stefan Salomone who won his singles 21-12 21-14 against Kenneth Vella.

Birkirkara then edged ahead through Maria Borg who beat Dawn Tinkler 21-11 21-12 in the women's singles.

There was no stopping Birkirkara now as they added the men's doubles through brothers Stefan and Robert Salomone who had the better of Kenneth Vella/David Cole 23-21 21-9, opening an unassailable 3-1 lead for their team.

Pawla scored a consolation point to ensure a more respectable final score by taking the remaining women's doubles through Catherine Dimech/Joanne Cassar who defeated Maria Borg/Fiorella Farrugia 21-17 22-20.

This second consecutive positive result brings Birkirkara ever closer to the national title which has eluded them for the past seasons. The third encounter between these two sides will take place at the Cottonera Sports Complex on March 3.
