Birkirkara clinched the 2009-10 Premier League title on Friday after a 1-0 victory over Tarxien Rainbows gave them an unassailable lead at the top.

Shaun Bajada's fine goal six minutes from the end of the first half was enough for Birkirkara to restore their four-point gap over nearest pursuers Valletta and seal the third championship in the club's history.

The final whistle sparked wild celebrations among the Birkirkara players and the jubilant fans who turned up in their thousands for Friday's match.

The Stripes' win over Tarxien has reduced their clash with rivals Valletta on Wednesday to a formality but another bumper crowd is expected at the National Stadium as Birkirkara will be presented with the BOV Premier League trophy at the end of the match.
