Birkirkara moved on top of the Premier League standings after they crushed leaders Qormi 5-2 in a one-sided encounter at the National Stadium today.
It was a brisk performance from the Stripes who surged ahead after only 11 minutes when Shaun Bajada tucked the ball home from close in.
Qormi soon responded and drew level a minute later when Camilo profited from some hesitancy in the Birkirkara defence to fire the ball past Birkirkara goalkeeper Jorge Mora.
Birkirkara soon regrouped and Sylvano Comvalius put them ahead from a free-kick on 25 minutes before George Mallia made it 3-1 10 minutes from the break.
The Stripes struck again a minute from the break when Qormi defender Stephen Wellman inadvertently headed the ball into his own net in an attempt to clear Comvalius cross.
Man-of-the-match Trevor Cilia hit Birkirkara’s fifth 15 minutes from time before substitute Ryan Deguara pulled one back for Qormi.
Birkirkara’s Joseph Zerafa was sent off three minutes from time.
