Birkirkara 2 (Camenzuli 17, Temile 37)
Sliema Wanderers 0
Birkirkara registered their fourth consecutive league victory with 2-0 victory over Sliema Wanderers.
In the 13th minute, Ledesma dropped deep to collect the ball and with an astute back heel released Marko Potezica whose low drive crashed against the foot of the post.
Birkirkara took time to find their range and in the 17th minute they took the lead when Camenzuli’s free-kick deceived Glenn Zammit, who replaced the suspended Timothy Aquilina, as it came off Mark Scerri’s back and landed in the net.
The Stripes doubled their lead 20 minutes later when a corner by Andelkovic triggered a goalmouth scramble when Zammit managed to put the ball high in the air from Mauricio Latini’s effort, where there was the debutant Christian Bubalovic nodding the ball goalwards who saw the goalkeeper blocking his shot.
The Sliema goalkeeper had to surrender on Birkirkara’s third attempt as Temile stabbed the ball home from point blank.
The stripes’ strategy after the break to attack through the wings consigned Sliema's flank defenders to their own half despite the introduction of winger Benjamin Essel. Agius advanced before picking out Camenzuli on the left.
The winger producing a curling shot that finished on the side-netting. Goran Mujanovic then shot wide as the game became more balanced.
After 71 minutes, Ledesma tested Miroslav Kopric with a dipping free-kick but the goalkeeper was alert as he touched the Brazilian’s effort over the bar.
Three minutes from time, Mujanovic almost snatched a third as the Croat set off on a powerful run on the left before hitting an audacious flick that dripped wide off the far post.
