BIRKIRKARA 3

Camenzuli 41, Plut 61, Agius 89

PEMBROKE ATHLETA 0

Birkirkara were back to business as they returned to winning ways following their heavy defeat against Valletta.

The resounding victory against a team lying fourth from bottom in the standings is unlikely to soften the deep disappointment caused by last week’s defeat.

It was all Birkirkara in the early stages, with Camenzuli curling a dangerous inswinger from a corner, which Matthew Farrugia, the Pembroke goalkeeper tipped over the bar.

And four minutes from half-time, Camenzuli was unmarked, when he received the ball from Liliu and shot past Farrugia via the foot of the post and into the net. His goal drew a feeble applause from the Birkirkara fans, that did not turn up in their usual numbers yesterday,

Shy the hour mark, Liliu underlined his rich vein of form as his ghosting run tore the Pembroke apart down the right, before cutting the ball to Plut who slid the ball home.

That goal should have effectively killed off Pembroke but Temile blotted his copybook by getting a red card for two yellow card in quick succession.

One minute from time, Birkirkara all but sealed the issue. Breaking clear on the counter, Camenzuli left Alex Cini in his wake before delivering a perfect centre towards substitute Edmond Agius, who with his first touch of the ball, cleverly back-heeled the ball into the net.
