Birdlife Malta's chief executive returned from a session of birdwatching this morning to find his four car tyres had been slashed.

Mark Sultana was out birdwatching in the vicinity of the former Jerma Hotel in Marsascala and on his return to the car, he found it had been vandalised by an unknown individual or individuals.

The area where this happened is well known for illegal hunting activities, Birdlife said in a statement.

Mr Sultana immediately filed a report at the police station and investigations are ongoing.

Birdlife Malta condemned this "vandal and cowardly act" and expressed solidarity with Mr Sultana.

It is not the first time that birdwatchers or their property have been attacked in the past.
