A Michigan woman is facing murder and dismemberment charges after roadside rubbish bags were found to contain her missing son's body parts.

Police in St Clair Shores said prosecutors were expected to review a warrant over the 59-year-old woman's arrest on Friday.

Her 32-year-old son was reported missing on January 26 and identified through fingerprints.

His remains were found on Thursday about 50 miles north east of Detroit in St Clair and China townships after someone reported seeing a woman dumping rubbish sacks along a road.
