The film 13 Hours is the biggest production ever to be filmed in Malta since the Malta Film Commission was set up with a direct injection of around $50m (€45.05m) into the economy, Tourism Edward Zammit Lewis said yesterday during a visit to the film set unit base in Floriana.

The American action thriller directed by Michael Bay is in the last days of production in Malta and tells the story of six members of the security team that fought to defend the American diplomatic compound in Benghazi when it came under attack in 2013. The film is based on a book by Mitchell Zuckoff.

13 Hours started filming in Malta in April and is expected to be released by Paramount Pictures on January 15, 2016.
