More than 200 foreign delegates will descend on Gozo for the annual European Cities Against Drugs conference tomorrow. ECAD brings together some 265 cities from 30 countries working towards reducing drug abuse in Europe.

The conference, which will be held under the theme Empowering Our Citizens To Live Healthier Lifestyles, is being organised by the Local Councils Parliamentary Secretariat and the Pembroke local council and is taking place at San Lawrenz. There are 11 councils which are part of ECAD, including Pembroke.

Programmes and initiatives to tackle drug abuse will be discussed and local representation will come from organisations that tackle drug abuse such as Sedqa, Caritas and Oasi. The police will also take part.
